Children's Workshops

 We believe in a healthy and sustainable future for all the children of the world. We offer workshops for children that are fun, inspiring, and creative. Our team has many years of experience working with children and we look forward to teaching your child about the natural world. While learning about gardens, plants, soils and animals, the children will also learn and incorporate science, math, history, writing, and art.

Explore the underground world of micro-organisms that live in the soil. What are they? What do they do? Why are they important? How do they look? Where do they come from? What’s compost? How do you build a worm bin? Let’s design a worm bin and draw a picture of the soil ecosystem.

A brief history of mono-culture gardening and why we want diversity in our gardens. What types of plants do we want in our gardens.  Let’s draw a poly-culture garden and create your own special plant list.

How do fruit trees grow? What is companion planting? What plants make the best companions for your fruit tree? Why is it important to the life of a tree? Write a story about your fruit tree and its best friends. Let’s draw a picture of a tree with its companions, including the root systems.

Learn the history of the keyhole garden. What are the benefits? How does it work? How do you build one? Learn to calculate the dimensions of a keyhole garden and the science behind how it works. Make a clay model of a mini-keyhole garden. Create a list of plants to grow in your keyhole garden.

Explore and create a garden habitat for furry, feathered, crawling, croaking, garden friends. How do we attract wildlife into the garden? What are their needs? What plants attract butterflies, birds, bees and other beneficial wildlife? Why do I want these critters in my garden? Let’s design a beautiful wildlife habitat.

Greens, Vines, & Roots

Learn about the needs of vegetables and how much space each one needs to grow. Learn about seeds and how to plant them. What is an organic vegetable garden? How do you combine the plants so they support one another? Why are vegetables good for you?  Let’s design a garden plot and plant seeds to start your own garden. Create yummy, simple recipes using the vegetables and herbs you grow.
